Feb 17 - 22 - RSCDS Winter School, Pitlochry 

Held in the picturesque town of Pitlochry, the RSCDS Winter School, happens annually during the last week of February. Participants will stay in the majestic Atholl Palace Hotel; a four-star Victorian accommodation, it is the epitome of comfort. Breakfast and dinner are served in the main dining room, which offers stunning views of the valleys below.

Classes are held at different venues around Pitlochry, all in walking distance, and in the Atholl Palace itself. Classes are held every morning and there are optional classes in the afternoon — a full day of dancing if your feet are up for it!

Feb 18 - 25  and/or  Feb 25 - March 4 - The Sunday Class Holiday in Madeira 


Actually, your choice of two weeks. The first week we dance to CDs, except for one evening of live music. The second week features live music on 5 evenings, and impromptu entertainment by Alex Hodgson. Our band is the wonderful Marian Anderson & Her Scottish Dance Band.

We will stay in the Vila Gale hotel in Santa Cruz, which boasts amazing views of the Atlantic Ocean, along with a picturesque town and is only a short transfer from the airport and 7½ miles from Funchal.

Our package is for Half Board with wine and water included with your evening meal and prices include the cost of transfers between Funchal airport and the hotel.

March 1-3  - Belleville SCD Workshop and Ball Weekend 

Belleville Scottish Country Dancers invite you to our 2019 Workshop and Ball Weekend.  

We are fortunate to have the legendary Atsuko Clement, from Edinburgh, as our teacher, and we are pleased to welcome back Laird Brown and his band, Scotch Mist. 

The weekend commences with a Social Dance on Friday. Classes are Saturday with the Reception, Dinner and Ball on Saturday night. The weekend concludes with a Sunday brunch followed by a final class. All dances and classes will be in the Masonic Temple.

Madison Scottish Country Dancers would be thrilled to welcome you to join us for our 42nd annual ball

Apr 19 - 21 - Spring Fling, Paris — A special weekend for young dancers 18-35 

Save the date lovely dancers: Paris will be the place to be Easter Weekend, April 2019!

Previous Spring Flings have been wildly successful. Glasgow 2018 attracted 144 young dancers from 20 countries. Usually, and most likely in Paris, there is an associated Spring Fling for the over-35 crowd. The last big event of the Spring Fling is a combined dance, which counted 350 dancers in Glasgow.

Apr 30 - May 5 - Spring School of Scottish Country Dance, Kazan, Russia 

RSCDS Moscow Branch is happy to invite you to the most outstanding and important event in the Scottish Dancing Culture in Russia. The School program includes the workshops in all styles of Scottish Dancing: Scottish Country, Highland, Ladies’ Step, and Cape Breton Step.

Our teachers:  RON WALLACE (USA) – SCD, Step Dance (hard and soft shoes) and GABOR TURI (Hungary) – SCD.  And we hope to see DERYCK MITCHELSON (UK) as a Highland Dance teacher.

Our dancers come from all parts of Russia. Most are young and energetic. This school allows dancers from distant areas to learn from the best practices and inspires them for continuing study of Scottish dancing and spreading Scottish culture around.

We would be glad to see experienced dancers, as well as beginners, from all around the world. This would allow our participants to become acquainted with different traditions and schools of Scottish dancing.

May 3 - 6 - International Branch Weekend in The Netherlands 

“In Netherlands the vast sea of flowers starts with crocus in March, followed by daffodils and hyacinths, then finally the tulips show their gorgeous colours, from mid-April through the first week of May.”

International Branch has chosen this wonderful season to invite you to visit this beautiful country with us. The Dance Weekend is be based in the Mitland Hotel, Utrecht, just 45 minutes from Amsterdam. We’ll be based in the same hotel for the Tourist Programme the week before (28 Apr - 3 May), during which we will visit Amsterdam, The Hague, Delft, Gouda, Keukenhof Gardens, and more.

May 11 -  Edinburgh 95th Anniversary Ball 

RSCDS Edinburgh Branch celebrates 95 years with a glamourous  Anniversary Ball. Dancers from all over the world are invited to join us in the iconic Greyfriars Kirk, in the heart Auld Reekie. This historic building creates a unique and memorable atmosphere. Andrew Kellett, Chair of the RSCDS, will be joining us and we look forward to dancers from California and New Zealand joining us, making this a truly international event.

The evening starts at 6:30pm with a drinks reception, then dancing to Iain MacPhail and band — followed by supper and more dancing until late.
The Grassmarket Café, a local social enterprise, are making a welcome return serving a buffet supper of fresh, local produce.

May 24-26 -  Stoney Lake Weekend 

The 35th Annual Scottish Country Dance Weekend at Stoney Lake will be held at Pine Vista, a lovely resort located in the beautiful Kawartha Lakes, just a 45 minute drive north of Peterborough, Ontario. Come and join us for this relaxing, fun weekend of Scottish country dancing and socializing. All levels of dancing experience are welcome at this event. Our teacher will be MOIRA KORUS.

May 31 - June 2 - Budapest Scottish Country Dance Weekend 

Dance with us in beautiful Budapest. Our teacher is ALASDAIR GRAY, with music by James Gray on piano, plus Andrew Lyon and Phill Jones on accordion.

The weekend will be followed by an optional tour to Sopron and environs in the northwest of Hungary (from Tuesday 4 to 7 June). This historic area with wonderful countryside and local culture (including viticulture) is sure to be a great pleasure.

From Sopron, there will be transport onwards for those joining the June 7 SCD Weekend in Vienna, or a return to Budapest.

June 7 - 10 - Scottish Dance Weekend in Vienna 

We are celebrating the 30th Anniversary of the RSCDS Vienna Branch.

Highlight will be a Dance Weekend for advanced dancers in Vienna, with RAPHAELLE ORGERET as teacher and Peter Shand as class pianist.

We are very happy to welcome Muriel Johnstone and Keith Smith as musicians for the evening dances and the ball on Sunday evening.

The venue for the weekend, Hotel Europahaus, Vienna, combines the dance hall, restaurant, and hotel rooms under one roof. The hotel is surrounded by a small park, the city can be easily reached by public transport. The Vienna Woods are nearby, the famous Schönbrunn Palace is only a few subway stops away, and one of the most important Art Nouveau churches, St. Leopold at Steinhof, is 3km distance.

July 7 - 13 - 44th Annual Australian Winter School, Melbourne  

Melbourne & District Branch extends a warm invitation to all dancers to meet at University College, College Drive, University of Melbourne, Parkville for a fun filled week of Scottish Country Dancing with great teachers and musicians.

Join hundreds of dancers from around the world in the beautiful and historic town of St Andrews. You have a choice of four weeks, opt for more than one if you are up for it.

Dance venues are all over town, an enjoyable walk through parkland and cobbled streets. Your teachers are the best of the best and each class has live music. Evenings have specialist dances or a ceilidh in residence, or general dances in town, and special evenings in the legendary Younger Hall.

July 26-28 - Teachers’ Conference Weekend and Annual General Meeting  

The Scottish Country Dance Teachers’ Association (Canada), better known as TAC, hosts a Teachers' Conference Weekend (TCW) and AGM each year at a venue in Canada or the USA. The 2019 events are at Mount Royal University in Calgary.

TCW Teacher will be JIMMY HILL from Edinburgh, Scotland. TCW Musicians will be Andy Imbrie (piano) and Debbie Benton Grosjean (fiddle) from California.

Eligibility to attend TAC TWC and AGM: Teachers of Scottish country dance who have obtained Level 1 (Units 1, 2, 3 or the Prelim) or Level 2 (Units 4 & 5 or Full) Certificates from the RSCDS and who are current Members of TAC are eligible to attend all events at the TAC Teachers' Conference Weekend (including voting rights at the AGM). The Scottish Country Dance Teachers’ Association (Canada), TAC, hosts a Scottish country dance summer school annually at a venue in Canada or the USA. TAC Summer School is open to ALL Scottish Country Dancers from basic to advanced and from beginner to experienced.

This year, we are at beautiful Mount Royal University in Calgary.

August 18 - 25 - Scottish Dance Week in Prague 

Dear dancing friends. . . You are cordially invited to our International Dance Course. For more than 25 years, we have organized regular summer dance courses for fans of Czech folk dancing, and Scottish country dancing. This year, we’ve decided to run the two courses simultaneously, with separate dancing halls at the same facility. The two courses will be joined for sightseeing tours and cultural outings. We hope everyone will enjoy this intermixing of the two dancing communities.

Scottish dancers will surely be thrilled to learn our teacher will be again RON WALLACE, with MURIEL JOHNSTONE on piano. On Saturday August 24 we will take you to North Bohemia to join 20th annual Scottish Highland Games.
