Royal watchers will know the Isle of Wight was a favourite retreat for Queen Victoria. Come and see why she loved it so. Oh, and you can dance here too!

Feb 24 - RSCDS London (Ontario) Annual Workshop 

Have you ever experienced a workshop class by David Tague?  Here’s your chance. He’s highly skilled at both Highland and Scottish country dance, and has been on many demo teams. He took The Glen Lomond dancers on a ten city tour of Western Canada. Members of the team included Simon Scott, Mary Murray, and Ron Wallace. He also formed his own performance group, The Strathleven Scottish Dancers, and they performed all over Southern California doing highland and country dance at Disneyland and other venues.

David is thrilled to be asked to teach at London. He says it’s real joy working with dancers that make up this amazing family.

Feb 16 - 18 - Aloha Winter Weekend, Hawaii 

RSCDS Hawaii Branch is planning its Annual Aloha Winter Weekend for 2018 in Honolulu, Hawaii.  The weekend will include a Friday evening social dance, Saturday and Sunday classes, a Saturday evening dinner dance, and a Sunday afternoon ceilidh.  

The guest instructor for the weekend will be Mary MURRAY from Vancouver, Canada. 
Music will be provided by The Humuhumunukunukuapua'a Society and Strathspey Band from San Francisco.

March 2 - 4 - Belleville Workshop Weekend

Belleville Scottish Country Dancers invite you to attend our Workshop and Ball.  The weekend commences with our Social on Friday, March 2;  it concludes with brunch on Sunday March 4 followed by social dancing.

March 9 -10 - Lorn Weekend School in Oban 

The Lorn (Argyll) Branch invites you our 57th annual weekend school in wonderful Oban on the west coast of Scotland.

The weekend begins with a Friday evening social dance with music by Michael Garvin’s Band

Saturday morning is devoted to classes, taught by dance wizard, Janet JOHNSTON. Martainn Skene will play piano for class.

Saturday evening features a buffet dance, 6:30 to 11:30pm, with dancing to David Oswald’s band..

March 16 - 18 - 24th Annual Iberian Dance Weekend, Algarve, Portugal 

The Lisbon-Lapa SCD group is delighted to host the 24th IBERIAN GATHERING – ALGARVE 2018. Our venue is the 5-star Grande Real Santa Eulalia Resort & Hotel Spa — and we’ll have a good wood floor!

April 6 - 8 - Dancing In New Places:  Nikko, Japan

Enjoy Scottish country dancing and discover the rich culture and beauty of Japan at cherry blossom time. Optional tourist programmes include many beautiful places and interesting activities: tea ceremony, sushi making, kabuki theatre, overnight stay in a Buddhist monastery.

April 14 - RSCDS Ottawa Branch Spring Ball

We would be pleased to welcome out of town guests to this event. The Ball will be held in the Ottawa Conference and Event Centre, which we have used for the last several years.  Their food and service are excellent.  Tickets will be available in January.

We’ll dance to the exciting music of Torridon Scottish Dance Band.

Sunday morning after the Ball will feature a fare-thee-well brunch.

Discounted rooms are offered by the adjacent Courtyard by Marriott Ottawa East, and some billeting with Ottawa members may also be available.

April 20 - 22 - Spring Fling 2018 in Glasgow — ages 12 - 35 

This is a Scottish Country Dance Festival for young dancers, 12-35. The festival travels to a different country each year. The highly successful 2017 Spring Fling was in Bonn, Germany, and it was sold out.

Spring Fling 2018 will be in boisterous, irreverent Glasgow. The poor old Duke of Wellington is never without a traffic cone adornment for very long, despite the best efforts of Glasgow council to maintain his dignity.

Subsidies and scholarships are available for young people to attend; and there is a concurrent Spring Fringe for those over 35.

May 7 - 9 - Dancing In New Places:  Bucharest, Romania

What could be more enchanting than dancing in exotic Bucharest, the “Paris of the East”. . . and, by contrast, in the same city, massive modernity of the now-departed Communist regime.

Optional tourist programmes include many beautiful places and dramatic places, such as Dracula’s Castle, the Carpathian Mountains, and the world’s largest palace. Plus, interesting activities: relaxing at Constanta Beach by the Black Sea, and exploring the rich wildlife of the Danube Delta through its canals and passages.

May 25 - 27 - Méaudre Reel SCD Weekend

SCD Weekend Workshop will be taught jointly by Antoine ROUSSEAU (RSCDS Paris Branch) and Mathias FERBER (RSCDS Paris - Lyon Branch).

Music by: Rody and Friends and  The Roaring Lyons. 

Méaudre Reel organises three different classes: one for primary school children, one for teenagers, and one for adults.

June 1 - 3 - Dancing In New Places:  Rovaniemi, Finland

What do you think Santa Claus does in his off-season?  He does Scottish country dancing!

Everyone knows Santa has his workshop at the North Pole but (shhh: it’s a secret) that he actually lives in picturesque Rovaniemi. It’s well above the Arctic Circle but there won’t be much snow in June. Won’t be much dark either!

Optional tourist programmes include Arctic adventures in Finland, Norway, and Sweden. You will meet cute husky puppies, reindeer, perhaps an elf or two.

June 15 - 17 - Country Dance Weekend in Lews Castle, Stornoway, Isle of Lewis 


Prominent SCD Teacher, Jimmy Hill, of Edinburgh, has organized a country dance weekend in the Outer Hebrides for next June. Dancing will take place in the spectacular restored ballroom of Lews Castle, overlooking Stornoway harbour.

At that time of the year it is daylight almost 24 hours a day in Lewis and with any luck the midges will wait for the influx of tourists in July!

Cost for the dance weekend is £120 and two nights bed and breakfast in a nearby hotel would be around £160.

The weekend includes a Friday night social dance, Saturday morning class, Saturday evening ball, then an informal Sunday morning class.

It also includes a three-course meal before the ball in Lews Castle.

Oct 26 - 28 - Autumn in Gamundia: An international Scottish Dance Weekend for advanced dancers 

Over the centuries, many have made their way to Schwäbisch Gmünd, from Romans defending their frontier town known as Gamundia to the medieval artisans who originated the town‘s title as the‚ Gold and Silver City. Why not dance in their footsteps in Autumn 2018?

The town will echo to the sound of the pipes and kilts will grace the historic streets. The dance venue, is an attractive modern congress centre in a beautiful location, with a small park just across the road from the hotel where accommodation will be available for all participants.

There will be a welcome dance on Friday evening, classes on Saturday and Sunday morning and a ball on Saturday evening.
