2018 - April 20 - 22 - Spring Fling 2018 in Glasgow — ages 12 - 35

This is a Scottish Country Dance Festival for young dancers, 12-35. The festival travels to a different country each year. The highly successful 2017 Spring Fling was in Bonn, Germany, and it was sold out.

Spring Fling 2018 will be in boisterous, irreverent Glasgow. The poor old Duke of Wellington is never without a traffic cone adornment for very long, despite the best efforts of Glasgow council to maintain his dignity.

Subsidies and scholarships are available for young people to attend; and there is a concurrent Spring Fringe for those over 35.

To sign up for email alerts, visit: https://www.springfling2018.com

This event is under the auspices of the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society but programme, planning, and much else is in the hands of young people.

2018 - June 15 - 17 - Country Dance Weekend in Lews Castle, Stornoway, Isle of Lewis

Are you interested? Prominent SCD Teacher, Jimmy Hill, of Edinburgh, asks for expressions of interest for a country dance weekend in the Outer Hebrides next June. The dancing would take place in the spectacular restored ballroom of Lews Castle, overlooking Stornoway harbour.

At that time of the year it is daylight almost 24 hours a day in Lewis and with any luck the midges are waiting for the biggest influx of tourists in July!

The cost for the weekend would be around £120 and two nights bed and breakfast in a nearby hotel would be around £160. There is a good hotel 3 minutes walk from the ferry terminal and 10 minute walk from the Castle.

The basic cost of the weekend would include Friday night dance, Saturday morning class, Saturday evening ball, then Sunday morning class.

It would also include a three-course meal before the ball in Lews Castle.

If you are interested, please email Jimmy at macleodhill@mac.com.

2018 - Oct 26 - 28 - Autumn in Gamundia: An international Scottish Dance Weekend for advanced dancers

Over the centuries, many have made their way to Schwäbisch Gmünd, from Romans defending their frontier town known as Gamundia to the medieval artisans who originated the town‘s title as the‚ Gold and Silver City. Why not dance in their footsteps in Autumn 2018?

The town will echo to the sound of the pipes and kilts will grace the historic streets. The dance venue, is an attractive modern congress centre in a beautiful location, with a small park just across the road from the hotel where accommodation will be available for all participants.

Teacher: Andrew Nolan.    Music: Luke & Adam Brady.

There will be a welcome dance on Friday evening, classes on Saturday and Sunday morning and a ball on Saturday evening.
