Teacher Candidate Classes
Toronto Association (TA) Teacher Candidate Course 2018-19 [revised 12 April 2018]
The RSCDS Certification process involves 5 Units:
Teaching Certificate Part 1---------Teaching Certificate Part 2
• Unit 1: Theory-----------------------• Unit 4: Teaching Practice
• Unit 2: Practical dancing ----------• Unit 5: Teaching Level 2
• Unit 3: Teaching Level 1
The Syllabus and other important documents are on the Society website:
www.rscds.org/article/teaching-certificate-2
Unit 1 (the written exam) is offered twice: October 20, 2018, and February 2, 2019
Except in unusual circumstances, Unit 1 must be taken before Units 2 or 3.
A candidate should start the course for Unit 2 either before or at the same time as Unit 3.
Units 2 and 3 must be passed within 3 years of each other. Teaching Certificate Part 1 is awarded when Units 1, 2, and 3 have been passed.
To enrol in Unit 5, candidates must show their whole Unit 4 Record of Teaching Practice and a copy of the examiner’s written assessment to their Unit 5 tutor. A minimum of 12 months must elapse between a candidate gaining Teaching Certificate Part 1 and submitting the Record of Teaching Practice for Unit 4. Therefore Unit 5 candidates are strongly advised to complete Unit 4 as soon as possible if they haven’t already done so; before September 2018 in any event.
We are aiming for exams in April 2019. Therefore, Unit 2 and Unit 3 candidates should attempt Unit 1 at the earliest opportunity (20 October 2018) so as to allow a re-sit in Feb 2019 if necessary. TA will organize an exam on the October date.
Goal of TA course:to prepare for Units 1+2+Unit 3, or Unit 5.
Format:3 hours alternate weeks (Sundays 2-5 p.m.) for 7 weeks in Fall 2018;
same in Winter 2019.
Cost: $500-$650 depending on enrolment numbers,
for Units 1+2+3, or Unit 5, payable in advance.
Society exam fees apply separately, listed here: www.rscds.org/document/196
