  • Fall classes 2026 begin in mid September

    RSCDS Toronto offers classes for adults of all ages and dance abilities, whether you’re just beginning, or have danced for decades. Come join us and share the wonderful experience of Scottish country dance!

    Classes are in three locations around the GTA. Teachers are accredited by the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society, Edinburgh. RSCDS Toronto is a not-for-profit affiliate of the Society.

    Fall and winter sessions each run for 10 weeks, 2 hours per class:

    • for members and first timers 10 week session $125 or $12.50 per class;
    • for non-members 10 week session is $150 or $20 per class;

  • Improvers — Central Toronto (Danforth near Chester Station)

    Day & Time: Tuesdays 7:00 – 9:00pm (first ½ hour will be step practice in the Upper Hall)
    Dates in Fall 2026 (10 weeks): Tuesdays Sept 29 to Dec 1
    Dates in Winter 2027 (10 weeks): Tuesdays Jan 5 – March 16. No class on Feb 9 (Shrove Tuesday).
    Location: Reception Room, St Barnabas on the Danforth Anglican Church, 361 Danforth Avenue, M4K 1P1

    Teacher: Erica de Gannes completed her CTI (Core Training for Instructors) certificate in 2023, and is currently working on her teaching certificate. Dancing highlights include dancing with the North American Team at the Newcastle Festival in 2024 and 2025 and with Maple Leaves team at the North American Festival in 2026.

    The Level 2 (Intermediate) classes build on the steps and formations learned at the Basic Level, and more complex formations are introduced. Dancers become more confident in skills and abilities, and enjoy the challenge of more complex dances.

    How to find the class: Walking along Hampton Ave (East side) pass the building; open playground gate and cross playground; straight ahead thru black arched door; at top of stairs enter the upper hall, turn right; walk to last door on right.


  • Extension Classes (Beginners & Improvers) — Central Toronto (Danforth near Chester Station)
    These classes are offered after Beginner Classes are complete

    Day & Time: Tuesdays 7:30 – 9:30pm
    Dates in Spring (8 weeks): Tuesday March 30 – May 18
    Location: Upper Hall, St Barnabas on the Danforth Anglican Church, 361 Danforth Avenue, M4K 1P1

    Cost for members: 8 week session $100 or $12.50 per class;

    Cost for non-members: 8 week session is $120 or $15 per class;

    Teachers: Tristan Gerrie, Erica de Gannes, Gavin Keachie

    These classes are designed as a bridge between the end of regular classes and the beginning of Dancing in the Park. The classes extend the learning experience as dancers review steps and formations previously taught and are introduced to new ones.

  • Advanced — North Toronto (Yonge & St Clair)

    Day & Time: Monday 7:30 – 9:30pm
    Dates in Spring (7 weeks): Mondays, April 5 – May 17. No class on April 6 (Easter Monday)
    Location: Lower hall of Calvin Presbyterian Church, 26 Delisle Avenue  (Yonge & St Clair)

    Cost for members: 7 week session $87.5 or $12.50 per class;

    Cost for non-members: 7 week session is $105 or $15 per class;

    These Spring classes build on the skill base of experienced dancers.  New formations and dances offer complexity in their combination of patterns, are introduced to challenge the more experienced dancer.

    How to get to the class: Enter via east side red doors (not the grand main entrance!), go down stairs to Lower Hall (on your right)

    Extra info: Calvin Presbyterian has a 65-yr history of hosting Scottish country dancing. The room has a good wood floor, and the church is handy to the subway (5-minute walk north from St Clair Station). There is Green P Parking just next door.


  • Scottish (Ladies) Step Dance Classes with Alma Smith — Oakville

    Scottish Step Dances (previously called Ladies Step Dances) are a ‘balletic” form of Highland dances, typically done by women. Read more about Step dancing here.

    Date of the first class in Fall 2026: TBD
    Time: 1:30 – 3:30pm

    Location: ‘The Talent Room’, Unit 12, 1100 Invicta Drive, Oakville (This is a dance studio with a large parking lot, conveniently located just off the QEW, east of Trafalgar Road).

    Cost: $10

  • Kids and Teens — Midtown (Rosedale)

    Invitation: New students, boys or girls, are always welcome. Come and enjoy social dancing, festivals, parties, special events and gala days!

    Time: classes for different ages and levels 9:30 – 11:45 am

    Season 2025/2026: Classes start September 13

    Location: Rosedale Presbyterian Church, 129 Mount Pleasant Rd at South Drive

    Family Class (9:30 – 10:05 am)
    Rosedale’s family dance class is suitable for children of all ages (starting at 3-1/2 yrs) with their parents, grandparents, siblings.

    Young Improvers and Intermediates Class (10:15am – 11:15)

    Young improvers are older children in the Family Class who are beginning to learn steps and formations. They are joined by volunteer tweens & teens.

    Senior Class (10:15 – 11:45 am)

    Teens join the Intermediate Class and learn to dance with confidence and poise. Strong friendships are formed and leadership skills develop. Importantly, self-confidence flourishes. Teens are quick to pick up dances and thrive on challenge. That’s what they get in the last part of the class    They learn just-for-fun dances, and they also concentrate on intricate, elaborate dances.

    Dancers at Rosedale all become members of the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society (at no extra charge). Accomplished dancers can attend formal events such as the West Toronto Ball, Christmas Dance, and Youth Dance. Scholarships are available for older teens to travel to Scotland to attend Summer School in St Andrews.

Members get a discount on classes (and other events), but there are broader reasons to become a Member of RSCDS Toronto.

From a ‘big picture’ point of view, classes would not exist without membership fees to support the training of teachers (equivalent to a university course, in difficulty and expense), the testing and publication of dances, and the production of CDs for the music we dance to.

Plus, Members are part of a world-wide international organization that maintains standards and safeguards the heritage and history of Scottish Country Dancing so it can continue to thrive.
