St Clement’s Social Group

We danced 50 yrs:  1971 to 2021

St Clement’s Social Group was started in 1971 by SCD legend, Grace Harris. Grace, and husband Colin, spent every Monday evening for 36 years at St Clement’s Church leading folk in the joys of dance.

In 2007, Grace passed the torch to Teresa Lockhart (at right) who brought her own witty and high-energy style to the group. Renovations at St Clement’s Church forced a change of venue to the bigger, brighter, and very agreeable and historic Great Hall of Bishop Strachan School in Forest Hill Village <map> but we retained our traditional name. (Scottish country dance is all about tradition!)

Social dancing begins promptly at 7:00. Teresa typically teaches dances from up-coming programmes and monthly dances, spiced with some endearing, unusual, and sometimes challenging dances she has come across.

Good music puts wings on your heels, and lifts your spirit. Teresa’s “roadie” (husband Rob) sets up the digital sound system to ensure that Teresa’s great music choices sound great too.

Enter BSS by main doors, 298 Lonsdale Road; sign in with BSS Security; sign in again at the Great Hall.

BSS is a very pleasant 2-block walk north of the Russell Hill streetcar stop on the St Clair West tramway.

Some folk (e.g. the lady with the flowers) danced with St Clement’s from it’s earliest days. In recent times, the group grew to welcome, typically, 4-5 sets per evening. All were made to feel welcome.

We had a nice place to dance. . . and nice people to dance with!
